Buckinghamshire Historic Buildings Trust
The Buckinghamshire Historic Buildings Trust is a charitable preservation trust and a non-profitmaking limited company. It is a member of the Heritage Trust Network.
It exists to preserve historic buildings and monuments in Buckinghamshire for the benefit of local people and the nation at large. In particular it looks to help find a future for buildings that are at risk of dereliction or loss, and ensure that they can again contribute positively to our cultural heritage and the well-being of our local communities.
Why is the Trust necessary? To help where market forces are not enough.
The Trust works by:
- Liaising with local planning authorities to identify buildings at risk and the causes of risk
- Grant aiding projects to scope solutions and specify appropriate repairs
- Contributing to the repair costs of buildings that have no or very limited access to private funding
- Operating a revolving fund for the purchase, repair and restoration of historic buildings at risk
- Facilitating grant aid from other national and independent funds
- Working in partnership with community organisations to ensure that buildings have a viable use that meets local needs
Current Project:
The Wheatsheaf, High Wycombe
A project to restore a 14th-century, jettied timber-frame public house on High Wycombe High Street.
The Trust has restored the building to full but with flexible use as a cocktail bar and community hub, once again playing an important role at the historic centre of High Wycombe.
